Isso é um problema com dkms? Algo mais que estou esquecendo?
Eu tive exatamente o mesmo erro em 6.8.0.44 e 6.8.0.45 migrando de 6.8.0.41. Eu não conseguia nem inicializar minha máquina (minha máquina estava travada com um logotipo da Dell, executar o kernel no modo de recuperação mostrou um kernel panic), eu tive que mudar para o antigo kernel 6.8.0.41 através do carregador de boot grub.
Quando eu corri,
sudo apt update
recebi exatamente o mesmo erro que você.Primeiro tentei desinstalar o Display Link, mas isso não resolveu o problema (consulte https://support.displaylink.com/knowledgebase/articles/683699-how-to-uninstall-displaylink-ubuntu-software ).

E o seguinte comando mencionado nele resolveu o erro em sua postagem: sudo apt install evdi-dkms
Então a atualização do apt foi bem-sucedida e eu finalmente consegui inicializar com o kernel 6.8.0.45 mais recente. Espero que funcione para você também.
Atualização: Fato curioso, obviamente eu queria instalar os drivers do display link novamente para fazer minha docking station funcionar. E isso realmente removeu o pacote evdi-dkms novamente. Mas felizmente meu sistema continuou funcionando bem.
Atualização 2: Depois de instalar os drivers do link de exibição novamente, meu atualizador de software meio que quebrou:
Graças a @Leejjon, consegui entrar no caminho certo e obter o kernel mais recente atualizado com sucesso. O problema parece ser a compatibilidade com evdi-dkms, que é usado para vários monitores com USB 3.0, que é necessário para um dock Dell que eu uso.
Primeiro, corri
sudo apt remove dkms evdi-dkms
para remover esses pacotes e então consegui executarsudo apt upgrade
esudo apt update
com sucesso. Então, consegui reinstalar o evdi-dkmssudo apt install evdi-dkms
e reinicializar com sucesso para o kernel mais recente. Veremos o que acontece quando a próxima atualização do kernel for lançada e se terei que fazer essas etapas novamente.
