Após atualizar para nvidia 390.87 tela preta no login

estou rodando o debian

las@thinkpad:~$ uname -a
Linux thinkpad-nc 4.9.0-8-amd64 #1 SMP Debian 4.9.144-3.1 (2019-02-19) x86_64 GNU/Linux

e apenas atualizado para o kernel acima. Também atualizei os drivers da nvidia para 390.87. Tenho uma GTX 1050. Após a atualização a tela de login fica simplesmente preta. Já tentei rodar um nvidia-xconfigmas não resolveu meu problema. Abaixo está a saída do Xorg.logmeu novo Xorg.conf gerado via nvidia-xconfig.
